WASHINGTON, May 17 (UPI) -- U.S. President Barack Obama is to arrive Saturday in Chicago, where the president will attend the NATO summit, the White House said Thursday.
Obama, making the trip with first lady Michelle Obama, will welcome leaders of NATO countries and other nations.
At the summit, set for Sunday and Monday, the president is to discuss the transition to the next phase in Afghanistan, with NATO to withdraw combat troops from the country in 2014.
Obama also plans to discuss ways to ensure NATO meets 21st-century challenges and ways to broaden and deepen NATO alliances with non-NATO partners, the White House said.
