NRC: Tepid urine costs nuke worker his job

WASHINGTON, May 15 (UPI) -- Federal officials said a security supervisor at a Minnesota nuclear power plant was fired in 2010 after he allegedly cheated on a urine test.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission said Tuesday the unidentified employee at Xcel Energy's Prairie Island plant was shown the door after he apparently tried to pass off someone else's room-temperature urine sample as his own during a 2010 random test and then failed to show up for a second test.

The NRC said the technician collecting the samples became suspicious because the supervisor's sample cup didn't feel warm.

The St. Paul (Minn.) Pioneer Press said the NRC report closed the books on the case. No further action was taken since Xcel had handled the violation appropriately.
