NEW YORK, May 8 (UPI) -- A bid by Qatar's prime minister to buy two Manhattan apartments was rejected by the building's co-op board, citing his 15 children and two wives, a report said.
Sheik Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber al Thani's $31.5 million attempt to purchase the property on the 8th floor at 907 Fifth Avenue was declined because "it was just too complicated," a source told The New York Post Monday.
Board members cited the Sheik's large family, his large number of staffers, uncertainty over his income sources and his diplomatic immunity, which absolves him of any accountability, the newspaper said.
The new owner would also have been a stark contrast to the property's previous resident. The property was formerly the residence of the late Huguette Clark, described by the newspaper as an "eccentric heiress" and "a doll-obsessed recluse" who died in 2011 at age 104.
