LOS ANGELES, May 8 (UPI) -- Sentencing is set May 21 for an Israeli man who pleaded guilty to narcotics and racketeering charges in Los Angeles federal court, prosecutors said.
Itzak Abergil, 43, a reputed organized crime figure in Israel, was charged in 2008 along with others in a conspiracy to commit extortion and murder and import the drug Ecstasy into the United States, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Federal agents had intercepted some 100,000 Ecstasy pills worth approximately $2 million that were bound for Los Angeles.
Abergil was head of a crime organization that conducted "criminal activities in Israel and around the world," the U.S. attorney's office said.
Members of his organization are accused of killing a man in Sherman Oaks, Calif., who interfered with a 2003 drug deal.
