Poll: Romney, Obama even in Ohio, Florida

HAMDEN, Conn., May 3 (UPI) -- Republican Mitt Romney has caught up with U.S. President Obama in two key election states, while the president expanded his lead in a third, a poll indicates.

Romney, the former Massachusetts governor and presumptive GOP nominee, now leads Obama 44 percent to 43 percent in Florida and closed to within 2 points of Obama in Ohio, 44 percent to 42 percent, results from the Quinnipiac University Swing State Poll released Thursday indicated.

Because of the margin of error, the university in Hamden, Conn., said Ohio and Florida were too close to call.

In Pennsylvania, Obama opened up an 8-point lead over Romney, 47 percent to 39 percent.

Quinnipiac said no one has won the White House since 1960 without carrying at least two of the three states.

A March 28 Swing State Poll indicated Obama led Romney 49 percent to 42 percent in Florida, 47 percent to 41 percent in Ohio and 45 percent to 42 percent in Pennsylvania.

Quinnipiac surveyed voters in the three states April 25-May 1. In Florida, 1,169 voters were sampled with a margin of error of 2.9 percentage points. In Ohio, 1,130 voters were interviewed with a margin of error of 2.9 points. In Pennsylvania, 1,168 voters were sampled with a margin of error of 2.9 points.
