U.S. trucker charged in Mexico

EL PASO, Texas, May 2 (UPI) -- Mexican authorities have filed formal charges against a Texas truck driver who crossed the border with a shipment of ammunition, his family said.

After two weeks behind bars, Jabin Bogan has been formally charged with violating Mexico's firearms laws, KVUE-TV, Austin, Texas reported.

Bogan's employer said the driver took a wrong turn, got stuck in bridge traffic and accidentally drove across the border.

"I believe once the Mexican government looks at the evidence and looks at all the paperwork that we have provided, and we are willing to provide, they will see it's a mistake," said Dennis MeKenye of Demco Transportation.

Bogan faces between five and 30 years in prison if convicted.

Now that he has been formally charged, he has 30 days to appeal.
