RICHMOND, Va., May 1 (UPI) -- President Barack Obama is likely to win Virginia's electoral votes in November against probable Republican nominee Mitt Romney, a poll indicates.
The Public Policy Polling survey released Tuesday said Obama has an eight-point lead over Romney. Fifty-one percent of those polled in Virginia said they'd vote for Obama for president, and 43 percent picked Romney, up from 48 percent to 42 percent in the most recent poll in December.
Obama won Virginia in 2008 by six points.
The poll found no difference in Romney's favorability if he chooses Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell as a running mate. If U.S. Rep. Eric Cantor, R-Va. or former U.S. Rep. Virgil Goode, R-Va., are on the ticket as vice president, Obama's lead over Romney increased by an additional four points, the polling firm found.
Public Policy Polling surveyed 680 Virginia voters April 26-29. The survey has a margin of error of 3.8 percentage points.
