Obama leads Romney among young voters

WASHINGTON, April 27 (UPI) -- U.S. President Barack Obama is favored among young voters, but a Gallup poll shows people under 30 are less likely to vote in the presidential election.

A survey of 2,165 registered voters nationwide, published Thursday, found 64 percent of people between the ages of 18 and 29 said they will vote for Obama, compared with 29 percent who said they will vote for likely Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.

However, only 56 percent of people in the same age group said they will definitely vote in the upcoming election, while 86 percent of respondents over the age of 65 said the same, the poll found.

Voters over 65 said they prefer Romney over Obama by 52 percent to 40 percent.

Overall, Obama leads Romney leads by 49 percent to 43 percent.

The poll, conducted April 20-24, has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
