Geese force emergency landing

NEW YORK, April 25 (UPI) -- Two geese that slammed into the windshield forced a Jet Blue plane to make an emergency landing just after take off from a New York airport, a spokesman said.

Jet Blue Flight 571 from Westchester County Airport to West Palm Beach, Fla., managed to land safely despite a cracked windshield, the New York Daily News reported Wednesday.

None of the 54 passengers or four crew members aboard the Embraer 190 were injured in the Tuesday night incident.

One passenger told the New York Post that when she got off the plane "the whole front of it was covered in bird."

Janice Hilbrink of White Plains, N.Y. said there was a loud noise and a lot of turbulence when the geese hit the aircraft.

It was the second bird-related emergency landing in the New York region in less than a week.

Last Thursday a Los Angeles-bound Delta Boeing 757 hit birds after taking off from Kennedy Airport and was forced to make an immediate landing.
