Poll: Most voters want Afghan withdrawal

WASHINGTON, April 19 (UPI) -- Fifty-nine percent of swing voters support the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan, a poll by the Pew Research Center for People and the Press indicates.

Swing voters, who are either undecided or may change their minds come election time, comprise 23 percent of all registered voters.

Of voters who support President Obama for a second term, 65 percent favor withdrawal.

Voters in favor of Republican front-runner Mitt Romney are torn on the issue. Forty-eight percent said they wish to pull troops as soon as possible while 46 said they would maintain a presence.

Thirty-two percent of those polled said the United States should maintain a presence in Afghanistan, an all time low.

Polling was done by phone Saturday and Sunday among 3,008 U.S. adults. The margin of error is 3 percentage points.
