WASHINGTON, April 18 (UPI) -- U.S. President Barack Obama's re-election campaign says it has initiated Latinos for Obama, an outreach effort intended to secure Hispanic votes.
Campaign manager Jim Messina called the initiative "the largest ever national effort to engage Hispanic Americans in their communities and involve them in the upcoming election through voter registration, volunteering and voting."
Latinos for Obama will release Spanish-language television and radio ads in the key states of Colorado, Nevada and Florida, USA Today reported Wednesday.
The Republican Party announced this week its own Hispanic outreach program, aimed at Florida, New Mexico, Colorado, Virginia, North Carolina and Nevada.
"We are going to engage Hispanics and Latinos like we've never done before," said Republican Party Chairman Reince Priebus.
Polls show Obama has an advantage among Hispanics because of his stance on issues including immigration, education and health care, USA Today reported.
