JetBlue pilot indicted for meltdown

LUBBOCK, Texas, April 12 (UPI) -- JetBlue Airways pilot Clayton Osbon, who passengers said went berserk in mid-flight, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Texas Thursday, records indicate.

Osbon was named on one count of interfering with a flight crew.

The pilot was subdued by passengers on a New York-to-Las Vegas flight March 27 after an apparent meltdown in which he screamed about terrorists and "sins in Las Vegas." The jetliner landed safely in Amarillo, Texas.

An FBI affidavit stated the flight's first officer said Osbon told air traffic controllers to "be quiet," turned off the aircraft's radios and said, "We're not going to Vegas" before delivering a "sermon" and leaving the cockpit. The co-pilot then locked him out of the cockpit, allegedly triggering further outbursts from Osbon.

Osbon was being evaluated by a court-appointed psychiatrist to determine if he is sane and can stand for trial, ABC News reported.
