Chicago shootings kill 2, injure 15

CHICAGO, April 8 (UPI) -- Two people were killed and 15 others wounded by gunfire in separate incidents overnight in Chicago.

Robert Luna, 13, died about 10 p.m. from gunshot wounds he received in the head and body, the Chicago Tribune reported Sunday. He and two friends -- a 15-year-old boy shot in the arm and thigh and a 16-year-old boy shot in the arm -- were sitting on a porch when two males approached and started shooting, police said. The two shooters have not been apprehended.

None of the three victims self-identify with any gangs, but police said an older relative of Luna's is affiliated with a gang that has been feuding with two others for months. Police said the shootings could be in retaliation for the shooting death of a 28-year-old woman Friday night.

In a separate incident, Tonya Gist, 41, was shot in the head and killed around 11 p.m. Saturday while standing on the porch of a Roseland neighborhood home with several family members, the Tribune said. Based on initial reports, Gist was not the intended target of the shooter, police said.

Throughout the night, 15 other people were taken to the hospital in at least 10 other shooting incidents, the newspaper said.

One of the victims -- who lived on the same block at Luna -- was shot less than three hours after the boy.
