Ryan Leaf freed on bond in Montana

GREAT FALLS, Mont., March 31 (UPI) -- Jailers in Montana said former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf posted bond late Friday following his arrest on drug and burglary charges.

Deputies at the Cascade County Detention Center told the Great Falls Tribune that Leaf had posted a $76,000 bond after being arrested earlier in the day on charges of burglary, theft and possession of dangerous drugs.

Details of the charges were not immediately released.

USA Today said Leaf, the No. 2 overall pick in the 1998 NFL draft, lasted four disappointing seasons with the San Diego Chargers before his career ended. He has since run afoul of the law twice before his latest arrest. Both incidents in 2008 and 2009 involved prescription-drug abuse.
