WASHINGTON, March 30 (UPI) -- The Republican National Committee drew heat Friday for an ad in which it doctored U.S. Supreme Court arguments on healthcare reform.
The ad takes the audio of U.S. Solicitor General Donald Verrilli's arguments on the constitutionality of the law's requirement that everyone who can afford it buy health insurance, adding pauses and making it appear Verrilli couldn't complete a thought, The Hill reported.
White House spokesman Josh Earnest, en route to an Obama campaign appearance in Vermont, refused to comment on the ad, directing questions to the Democratic National Committee.
Attorney Tom Goldstein wrote in his blog on SCOTUSblog the ad is "classless and misleading."
"It is as if the RNC decided to take an incredibly serious and successful argument that has the chance to produce a path-breaking legal victory for a conservative interpretation of the Constitution, drag it through the mud and vomit on it," Goldstein wrote.
The healthcare ad following an earlier Republican attack ad that alternates pictures of Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, U.S. President Barack Obama and the words "sworn American enemy."
