CHARDON, Ohio, March 28 (UPI) -- A judge has ordered a mental competency evaluation for a 17-year-old accused of fatally shooting three students at a Ohio high school.

Geauga County Juvenile Court said in a news release Judge Timothy Grendell ordered the evaluation for T.J. Lane, accused in the Feb. 27 shootings at Chardon High School in Chardon, Ohio, in which two others were also seriously wounded, The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer reported.

The release did not say whether the evaluation had been requested by one of Lane's three attorneys or whether prosecutors agreed with it.

Lane has been charged with three counts of aggravated murder, two counts of attempted aggravated murder and one count of felonious assault.

Because of his age and the seriousness of the charges, Lane is expected to be bound over to adult court, newspaper said.
