Babysitter accused of killing 3-month-old

DETROIT, March 23 (UPI) -- A babysitter has been charged in the death of a 3-month-old boy, Detroit police said.

Cherelle Underwood, 19, was arraigned Thursday on charges of first-degree murder, felony murder and first-degree child abuse for the young boy's death, the Detroit Free Press reported.

Police said Underwood, who was arrested Wednesday, physically assaulted the boy while he was in her care on Sept. 23.

Emergency medical technicians were called to the scene where they treated the boy, but he was later taken to a local hospital where he died, police said.

After her arraignment, Underwood was sent to the Wayne County Jail until April 3 when she's due back in court, police said.
