2 dead, 2 wounded in N.C. shooting

DURHAM, N.C., March 23 (UPI) -- Two people were killed and two were wounded Friday afternoon when a man opened fire at a tire shop in Durham, N.C., police said.

One of the dead was identified as Abdel Gadir, a taxi driver who co-workers said had been at the shop, J.T. Tire, for a repair, WRAL-TV, Raleigh, reported. The identity of the second person killed has not been released.

Witnesses said one of the wounded was John Turner, owner of the shop, The (Raleigh) News & Observer reported. Relatives told WRAL Turner's wife, Betty, was hit and was taken to a hospital.

A fifth person was injured while taking evasive action during the shooting.

"I heard the gun shots and people started running," Robin Paige, who was driving past when the shooting started, told the newspaper.

The gunman got away in a silver sedan, witnesses said.

The motive for the shooting was unclear.

"My uncle ain't never done nobody any wrong," Ray Turner told WRAL.

One neighbor, Michael Walker, said about 10 shots were fired.
