INDIANAPOLIS, March 22 (UPI) -- Country music duo Sugarland told Marion Superior Court to wait until May for depositions regarding last summer's stage collapse, which killed seven in Indiana.
Sugarland spokesman Allan Mayer issued a statement saying the band members needed time to prepare.
"Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush have not refused to give depositions; they are simply refusing to be bullied into doing so on short notice without sufficient time to prepare," the statement said. "They and we very much share in the anguish of all those touched by this terrible tragedy, but no one's interests are being served by trying to short-circuit the legal process."
The company that owned the stage, Mid-America Sound Corp., has been named as a co-defendant in the lawsuit. The company has pushed for depositions from both the band and its ownership company, Lucky Star Inc., the Indianapolis Star reported.
Sugarland was about to appear on stage before a gust of wind toppled it Aug. 13, killing seven and injuring 60 at the Indiana State Fair's Hoosier Lottery Grandstand.
