Woman said to put dad's corpse in cooler

SLIDELL, La., March 13 (UPI) -- Bond was set at $40,000 Tuesday for a Louisiana woman accused off slicing off her dead father's hands and storing his corpse in a cooler in her apartment.

Debra Fisher, 58, who was arrested Friday after undergoing a mental assessment, was charged with mutilating or disinterring human remains and unlawful disposal of remains, The (New Orleans) Times-Picayune reported.

Authorities said Fisher cut off her dead father's hands, put his body into a 160-quarter ice chest in a Slidell apartment she shared with another woman and left it there at least a few months. The body became a mummified, liquefying skeleton.

A public defender was appointed for Fisher after she told a court commissioner she could not afford an attorney.

Fisher's roommate, Heidi Todd, 44, was charged last week with unlawful disposal of human remains. Her bond was set at $30,000.

Each of the women faces a possible three years in prison.

Authorities have not identified the cause of the man's death and did not provide his identity, but it is believed he was born in 1928.

The Times-Picayune said the sheriff's office was investigating whether Fisher was collecting her father's Social Security checks after his death.
