Student allegedly threatened killing spree

COLLEGE PARK, Md., March 12 (UPI) -- A 19-year-old University of Maryland college student was arrested after he allegedly threatened to go on a shooting rampage, police said.

Alexander Song, of Fulton, Md., allegedly posted a threat on two Web sites that said, "I will be on a shooting rampage tomorrow on campus" and "hopefully I kill enough people to make it to national news." He warned in the posts to "stay away from the mall tomorrow at 1:30," campus police said.

A spokesman for the University of Maryland police department said Song allegedly posted threats Saturday night on reddit.com and the chat site Omegle.

Police said they linked the posts to Song and searched the night for him. He was arrested on campus around 10 a.m. Sunday and held for psychiatric evaluation, WTOP, Washington, reported

Song was charged with a misdemeanor for allegedly "disturbing the orderly conduct of the activities, administration or classes" at the College Park campus. The university moved to immediately suspend Song's student status and he was banned from campus.

Capt. Marc Limansky, spokesman for the campus police, said it does not appear Song had access to any weapons, The Baltimore Sun reported.
