Newborn baby found dead in car trunk

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md., March 9 (UPI) -- A newborn baby was found dead in the trunk of a car parked outside a home in southern Maryland, police said.

The baby was found at 6:39 p.m. EST Thursday in the trunk of the car in Prince Frederick, WUSA-TV, Washington, reported.

Lt. Steve Jones of the Calvert County Sheriff's Office said relatives of the car's owner had been cleaning out the trunk when they found the infant's body, CNN reported.

Investigators were questioning the vehicle's owner, Jones said.

Police said relatives of the baby had called police to report concerns about the baby's well-being. The baby was taken to the medical examiner's office for an autopsy.

No charges had been filed.
