Cash from robbery found at grave

PITTSBURGH, March 8 (UPI) -- A man wanted for a deadly armored car robbery concealed about $25,000 at his great-grandmother's grave in a Pittsburgh-area cemetery, investigators say.

The cash was recovered along with about $200,000 Kenneth John Konias Jr. allegedly left at his parents' home in Dravosburg, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.

Konias, who worked for Garda Cash Logistics, allegedly shot his partner, Michael Haines, 31, of McKeesport, Feb. 28 and left his body in the back of their armored truck under a bridge in Pittsburgh, making off with more than $2 million. Police found bloody clothing at his parents' house, but Konias had vanished.

The money at St. Mary Magdalene Cemetery in Munhall was discovered after Konias called his parents and told them to visit Anna Hrichak's grave. A lawyer representing the parents says they are cooperating with the investigation, which now involves local, state and federal agencies.

Lawrence Likar, a former FBI agent teaching at La Roche College in McCandless, Pa., told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that all of Konias's actions show a lack of planning.

"I just think this is someone who committed a very amateurish and stupid act, and it's carrying on in the same tradition," Likar said.
