School headmaster killed in Florida

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., March 6 (UPI) -- The headmaster of the Episcopal School of Jacksonville, Fla., was shot and killed Tuesday afternoon by a man who then turned the gun on himself, police said.

Police said the gunman, whose name was not released, was carrying an AK-47 in a guitar case. He allegedly walked into the administrative office in the middle of the school day, shot headmaster Dale Regan several times and then killed himself.

No children were injured.

Unconfirmed reports said the shooter was a teacher who had been fired earlier in the day, The Florida Times-Union reported.

Regan had worked at the school since 1978, the newspaper said.

"We ask you to please pray for us as a community," said the Rev. Kate Moorehead, dean of St. John's Cathedral and the Diocese of Florida. "We have full confidence that Dale Regan is already with God and in heaven with our lord and savior Jesus."
