Man arrested in Detroit-area abduction

HAMTRAMCK, Mich., March 4 (UPI) -- The mayor of a Detroit suburb said the alleged kidnapping and sexual assault of three women outside a bar this weekend was an isolated incident.

Hamtramck Mayor Karen Majewski said her community and the annual Metro Times Blowout music festival that took place over the weekend were generally safe for visitors.

"This is really an aberration," Majewski told The Detroit News. "This is not the type of thing that happens in Hamtramck period."

A suspect was being held Sunday on charges he accosted three women at gunpoint in a night club parking lot and forced them into his vehicle. He allegedly drove them to Detroit where he allegedly raped them and then forced one of the women to take cash from an ATM at a gas station.

The woman alerted the clerk who hustled her behind the counter and called police.
