Two women kidnapped in Detroit

DETROIT, March 1 (UPI) -- Detroit-area police are searching for two young women believed kidnapped after text messages were received from the trunk of a car, authorities said.

Abreeya Brown, 18, and Ashley Conaway, 22, were allegedly abducted at gunpoint outside their home Tuesday, and sent text messages, including one reading "Help us. They got us," for about an hour afterward.

Three men believed to be involved in the incident are in custody, said a Hamtramck Police Department spokesman, including Brandon Cain, 25, who was known to the women and their families.

"He terrorized both young women. This person caused so much terror in their lives," said Charles McGinnis, Brown's stepfather.

McGinnis alleged Cain was angry Conaway wanted to break off a relationship with him, and that Cain had previously shot at both women. Other family members suggested Cain was angered by the possibility of Conaway's testimony against him in a February 8 shooting incident, The Detroit News reported.

The Hamtramck Police Department confirmed the accounts of the earlier incident, the newspaper said.

The men in custody have not yet been charged, and police believe they found the car in question.

"Responding police found a car on fire, fitting the description of the getaway car. There were no bodies in the car," Hamtramck detective George Voight said Thursday.
