Newseum to rededicate journalist memorial

WASHINGTON, Feb. 26 (UPI) -- The Newseum in Washington, D.C. says it will rededicate its Journalists Memorial, which displays the names of journalists who have died in the line of duty.

The rededication of the memorial wall with the names will take place May 14, Broadcasting & Cable reported.

The announcement came after U.S. reporter Marie Calvin, working for the Sunday Times of Britain, was killed by Syrian forces a day after reporting on the killing of a child in Syria.

French photojournalist Remi Chalk was also killed and several journalists injured when their makeshift press center in the city of Homs was shelled, the Committee to Protect Journalists said.

The CPA Friday called for an immediate cease-fire in Syria so the dead could be removed and medical treatment provided for the injured journalists.

Nine journalists have already died in 2012, the CPA said.
