Calif. man arrested, 49 bombs in car

SEBASTOPOL, Calif., Feb. 23 (UPI) -- Authorities arrested a California man for allegedly having 49 homemade bombs in his car, a discovery police said they made during a traffic stop.

Police pulled over Robert Justin Vasseur, 22, in Sebastopol for two unspecified vehicle code violations when they discovered he was driving on a suspended license, Sonoma County sheriff's Sgt. Michael Raasch said. Vasseur's license was suspended because he failed to appear on a previous traffic ticket, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Thursday.

Upon searching Vasseur's car, police said they found bomb-making materials and the explosive devices, each bigger than a standard firecracker, Raasch said.

Additional homemade bombs were discovered at Vasseur's residence, along with several rifles and handguns. Police arrested an "uncooperative" woman at the residence, Tamblyn Borton, 50, for allegedly lunging at two officers, the Chronicle reported.

Vasseur was being held in lieu of $50,000 bail on suspicion of possession of destructive devices, possession of material to make destructive devices and driving on a suspended license.
