RALEIGH, N.C., Feb. 23 (UPI) -- The former aide to John Edwards who wrote an expose about the ex-U.S. Senator must return an alleged sex tape of Edwards and Rielle Hunter, a court ruled.
Hunter, Edwards' former mistress, had sued the aide, Andrew Young, in 2010 after Young wrote "The Politician," which revealed the existence of the tape. The suit sought to have her personal property returned to her, The Charlotte (N.C.) Observer reported.
Hunter won a consent judgment ordering Young to return several items, including the alleged sex tape, recorded in 2006, of her and Edwards, the former North Carolina senator and presidential candidate.
"We got the outcome we were seeking," said Hunter's attorney, Alan Duncan.
In the book, Young wrote of his role in keeping the relationship between Edwards and Hunter a secret, including by falsely claiming to the father of Hunter's baby born in 2008.
WTVD-TV, Raleigh, N.C., reported Young and his wife, Cheri, released a statement saying: "It has been suggested that one purpose of [Hunter's] lawsuit was an effort to intimidate and harass Andrew and Cheri Young who are expected to be witnesses in the criminal prosecution of Ms. Hunter's paramour, John Edwards. If that was in fact the case, it has failed miserably."
Edwards -- the 2004 Democratic Party nominee for vice president -- faces felony charges of violating campaign finance laws by using more than $1 million in contributions to help hide his pregnant mistress during his presidential campaign.
The case has been delayed because Edwards is suffering from a medical condition.
