WEATHERFORD, Texas, Feb. 22 (UPI) -- A jury in Parker County, Texas, found Jeffrey Maxwell guilty of sexually torturing a former neighbor for 12 days.
The jury took 52 minutes Tuesday in reaching its verdict, finding Maxwell, 59, of Corsicana, guilty of one count of aggravated kidnapping and two counts of aggravated sexual assault, the Forth Worth Star-Telegram reported.
Uyen Henson, a DNA expert with the Texas Department of Public Safety, told the jury DNA from Maxwell and his 63-year-old victim was found on chains, locks, a whip and handcuffs discovered in Maxwell's home and garage.
Maxwell's attorneys presented no evidence or witnesses but repeatedly objected to the methods used by authorities to obtain Maxwell's oral statements, the newspaper said.
"The Ranger said he gave him his Miranda rights, but the Ranger walked out of the interview and he didn't give him his rights when he came back," attorney James Wilson said.
Maxwell's victim testified she was abducted from her home March 1 and said she was beaten with a rolling pin, strung up on a hog lift and sexually tortured with chains and whips, even being locked in a "coffin" when her abuser left town.
Maxwell, who prosecutors called "monstrous" and "inhuman," faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
