DECATUR, Ga., Feb. 21 (UPI) -- An admitted killer says he was visited by a demon and angel who looked like Barry White and Olivia Newton-John, a Georgia prosecutor said Tuesday.
Hemy Neuman was a supervisor at General Electric when he allegedly gunned down Rusty Sneiderman, the husband of a colleague at GE, in a daycare center in Dunwoody, Ga., an Atlanta suburb. In opening statements, a DeKalb County prosecutor asked for a verdict of murder while Neuman's lawyer urged jurors to find his client not guilty by reason of insanity, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
Prosecutor Don Geary argued Neuman's behavior the day of the killing in 2010 suggested he knew what he was doing was illegal. He said Neuman ambushed Sneiderman, shot him twice and then again at point-blank range in the neck.
"Then this man who didn't know the difference between right and wrong goes to his van and drives off quickly, to be lost in the morning rush hour," Geary said.
Geary said Neuman would claim to be guided by a demon who looked like the late singer-songwriter White and who urged suicide while the Olivia Newton-John angel told him he was the father of Andrea Sneiderman's son and daughter.
Doug Peters, Neuman's lawyer, said his client has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. He told jurors Neuman grew up with a troubled father who had survived Auschwitz, the Journal-Constitution said.
Neuman genuinely believed that Ian and Sofia, Sneiderman's children were his, Peters said, and he thought he was protecting them by killing Rusty.
Andrea Sneiderman testified for the prosecution, describing business trips with Neuman. She said she became aware Neuman had romantic feelings towards her but that at one point when she told him to stop he reverted to being a friend.
