Survey: Iran still greatest enemy to U.S.

PRINCETON, N.J., Feb. 20 (UPI) -- Iran is most mentioned by Americans as the country they consider to be the greatest threat to the United States, a Gallup poll released Monday indicated.

Thirty-two percent of U.S. adults said Iran topped their enemies list, followed by China, which was named by 23 percent, results indicated.

The non-specific North Korea-Korea was the only other country in double digits, at 10 percent, the Princeton, N.J., polling agency said.

Rounding out the top 10 were Afghanistan, Iraq, Russia, Pakistan, the United States itself, Japan and Saudi Arabia.

Americans' views of Iran as the greatest enemy of the United States is in line with the highly unfavorable ratings given to the country, Gallup said. Iran had an 87 percent unfavorable rating, the most negative for any country measured in Gallup's February World Affairs survey.

Results for the Gallup poll on which country was the greatest enemy to the United States is based on national telephone interviews with 1,029 adults conducted Feb. 2-5. The margin of error is 4 percentage points.
