OKLAHOMA CITY, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- An Oklahoma man who allegedly beat and stabbed his pregnant wife so he could marry another woman has been formally charged with two counts of murder.
Justin Adams, 25, of Blanchard appeared in Oklahoma County District Court Monday, The Oklahoman reported. He was charged with first-degree murder.
Adams reported his wife, Jaymie, 25, missing on Dec. 10. Her body was discovered in early January on a bicycle track in Oklahoma City.
An affidavit filed with the court Monday said that Adams, in an interview with police immediately after his wife vanished, said that the mother of four worked as a prostitute to help pay the bills, getting business from the Internet. He told police she hated doing it and only worked when a bill was due.
Adams admitted lying to police in his first interview, saying his wife had gone out to meet a friend the night she disappeared. He later said she had gone out to meet a customer for sexual services.
Police said they obtained correspondence between Adams and another woman. She refused to be interviewed by detectives on the advice of her lawyer.
Adams has been held without bail since his arrest in late January.
