DETROIT, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- Mayor Dave Bing of Detroit has reached a savings agreement with the city's police unions, among 48 unions that have made concessions, officials say.
The agreement with the police unions, announced Friday, involves wage freezes across the board until 2015, overtime restrictions and increases in healthcare co-pays. The decision is another step towards resolving the city's current financial crisis, Detroit Free Press reported.
"The police unions and my administration have negotiated a tentative agreement, which provides much needed savings, but does not sacrifice public safety," Bing said Friday.
The police unions must review the deal and ratify it before it can go into effect. The administration says it is now turning its attention towards a similar deal with the Detroit Fire Fighters Association.
