AKRON, Ohio, Feb. 9 (UPI) -- An alleged serial killer charged in Ohio with luring jobless men to their deaths with a promise of employment has waived his right to a speedy trial.
Richard Beasley, 52, made a brief court appearance Wednesday in Summit County, the Akron Beacon Journal reported. Beasley tried to hide his face from photographers as he sat next to his lawyer in a wheelchair.
Beasley told the judge he understands he has a right to be tried quickly and that he is giving that up.
Beasley and an alleged accomplice, Brogan Rafferty, 17, are accused of killing three men who responded to a Craigslist ad offering them a job as a caretaker with free housing in Noble County. A fourth man told police he escaped from the pair.
Rafferty was not in court Wednesday.
Beasley could face the death penalty if he is convicted.
