PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- The admitted hitman in one of New Jersey's most notorious murder cases had once again implicated a rabbi in the killing of the cleric's wife.
Len Jenoff gave an interview to The Philadelphia Inquirer, telling the newspaper he was truthful when he testified against Fred Neulander at his two trials and lying when he recanted his story in 2009. The newspaper videotaped the interview.
"I testified at two trials that Fred Neulander did hire me, in fact, to kill his wife and make it look like a robbery and that is, in fact, the truth," Jenoff said Monday.
Neulander, former rabbi of Congregation M'kor Shalom in Cherry Hill, N.J., is serving a life sentence for his 2002 conviction for the 1994 murder of his wife Carol. She was beaten to death in the couple's home in Cherry Hill.
Prosecutors said Neulander wanted his wife dead so he could marry a Philadelphia radio announcer. His first trial ended in a hung jury.
Neulander, now at Trenton State Prison while his appeal is pending, called Jenoff's trial testimony "devastating, ugly, wrong and lying. He is appealing his conviction.
Jenoff originally admitted killing Carol Neulander to an Inquirer reporter. He and another man who participated in the crime are scheduled for release soon.
