Police warn about e-mail scams

KISSIMMEE, Fla., Feb. 2 (UPI) -- Kissimmee, Fla., police warned residents about "hit man scam" e-mails, which ask recipients for money in return for the cancellation of a hit on their lives.

In the e-mail, the "hit man" says he has taken pity on you, his intended target, and will call the whole ordeal off for $9,000, The Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel reported Wednesday.

Kissimmee police said the e-mail is a scam and advised residents not to send any money to people sending out such messages.

"This particular e-mail was originated from somewhere in Germany and appears to be spam," police said in a report.

Police added they want to know if people are getting these sorts of e-mail messages and asked residents to inform them if they do.
