Obamas take in art gallery exhibits

WASHINGTON, Jan. 29 (UPI) -- The first family strolled to a Washington art gallery Sunday evening to take in an exhibit of prominent black artists.

President Barack Obama, first lady Michelle Obama and their daughters, Malia and Sasha, took in the Corcoran Gallery of Art's special exhibition called "30 Americans." The gallery's Web site calls the exhibition a "wide-ranging survey of work by many of the most important African-American artists of the last three decades."

A White House officials said the Obamas also toured an exhibit on Civil War photography and the gallery's contemporary art collection.

The gallery was closed to the public for the evening to afford the first family some privacy.

Afterward, the Obamas walked back to the White House. The excursion took about an hour.
