HAMDEN, Conn., Jan. 27 (UPI) -- Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney leads Newt Gingrich by 9 percentage points days before the Florida primary, a Quinnipiac University poll indicated.

Results released Friday showed Romney held a 38 percent-to-29 percent lead over Gingrich among Republican likely voters in Florida. Only 6 percent said they are undecided, but 32 percent said they could change their mind by Tuesday.

U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas had 14 percent of likely primary voters and former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania had 12 percent.

"Speaker Newt Gingrich's momentum from his South Carolina victory appears to have stalled and Gov. Mitt Romney seems to be pulling away in Florida," said Peter Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute in Hamden, Conn.

"Of course, with four days before Election Day, there is time for another reversal. Three in 10 voters say they might change their mind."

Results are based on telephone interviews with 580 Republican likely primary voters Tuesday through Thursday. The margin of error is 4.1 percentage points.
