STAMFORD, Conn., Jan. 26 (UPI) -- A Stamford, Conn., woman who lost her three daughters and parents in a Christmas Day fire attempted suicide, relatives say.
Madonna Badger was hospitalized Wednesday following the alleged attempt. A relative told New York Daily News: "She is OK … She is out of the (hospital) and somewhere safe. It's just terrible -- nobody could really hold up well under the circumstances."
Badger's waterfront home caught fire on Christmas Day when fireplace embers tossed outside sparked a blaze.
The fire took the lives of Lily, 9, and twins Grace and Sarah, 7, as well as Badger's parents, Lomer and Pauline Johnson.
Her home was destroyed.
Badger and her boyfriend Michael Borcina survived the fire.
At the funeral for her daughters, Badger's eulogy spoke volumes of her struggle.
"When I used to hear about people losing a child," she said, "I would say I could never, ever, ever live through losing my babies."
