FORT WORTH, Texas, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- Police say a Forth Worth, Texas, man who died two days after being taken into custody may have ingested a large amount of crystal meth.
Police pursued Daniel Guerra on Friday when an officer ran a license plate check on his cream-colored Cadillac and revealed that his registration had expired. When police tried to pull him over, he fled and a pursuit ensued, police said.
The Fort Worth Star reports that the car finally stopped and a female exited the passenger seat and ran to the rear of the car, while Guerra emerged with his hands up. The police report says he quickly dove back into the car in what appeared to be an attempt to reach for a gun.
One officer fired on Guerra and missed. Other officers descended on him, one of whom deployed a Taser and subdued him. When he was loaded into the patrol car, he collapsed, and officers began to perform CPR.
The female suspect mentioned to officers that Guerra had ingested a large amount of meth during the police chase.
Guerra was pronounced dead in John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth by 11:40 a.m. Sunday.
