2 dead in Massachusetts plane crash

BREWSTER, Mass., Jan. 15 (UPI) -- A single-engine plane crashed off Massachusetts' Cape Cod in a snow squall Sunday, killing two people, authorities said.

The U.S. Coast Guard said the bodies were found about 2:30 p.m., Boston's WHDH-TV reported. The wreckage was believed to have sunk, though some debris was found.

The Federal Aviation Administration said a distress call had been received from the aircraft just before 10 a.m. The pilot said the cockpit was filling with smoke and it also was snowing.

The victims' names hadn't been released but police said the pilot was a 73-year-old man from Martha's Vineyard and the passenger was a 68-year-old man from Falmouth, the TV station said.
