Missouri senator ready to work after stent

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo., Jan. 13 (UPI) -- U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt, R-Mo., said Friday he is looking forward to "returning to my regular schedule very soon," following implantation of a coronary stent.

Blunt's office said he had a "routine and successful" outpatient procedure at Washington's George Washington University hospital Thursday, two days after his 62nd birthday, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

Doctors had found a coronary blockage during a physical examination earlier this week, The Kansas City (Mo.) Star said.

"I continue to be a strong believer in the life-saving importance of early detection, and I encourage everyone to be proactive about their preventive screenings," Blunt said. "I'm very grateful for the care that I received from the medical professionals at George Washington University Hospital, and I look forward to returning to my regular schedule very soon."
