GARDENA, Calif., Jan. 13 (UPI) -- Firefighters put out a fire that may have started in a Christmas tree at a Gardena, Calif., mortuary, officials said.

Fire crews were unable to enter the building because of intense flames and thick smoke in the Thursday night fire, the Los Angeles Times reported.

No injuries were reported and the Times said there were no bodies in the mortuary at the time.

Firefighters said the blaze may have been started in a dry Christmas tree.

Arson investigators were on the scene after firefighters extinguished the fire.
