Boy calls 911 as burgler ransacks house

VALINDA, Calif., Jan. 12 (UPI) -- A 15-year-old Los Angles-area boy hid under his bed sheets as a burglar ransacked the family home and calmly called 911 to report the intrusion, police said.

"I just heard the window break," the boy can be heard telling the emergency the dispatcher on a copy of the early Wednesday morning 911 call. "I think someone's in the house."

The dispatcher, after alerting sheriff's deputies, asks the boy how old he is.

"I'm only 15," he says, and as the burglar gets closer, he whispers, "He's coming."

"Were on our way," the dispatcher says, advising the boy to hide under some blankets.

When deputies arrived at the home in Valinda, the suspect acted as if he lived there, but deputies knew it was a ruse thanks to the boy's call and arrested Aurelio Hernandez, 42, the Los Angeles Times reported.

At one point the intruder was rummaging through the room where the youth was hiding, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.
