Woman arrested for shooting husband

KELLER, Texas, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- A Keller, Texas, woman who had claimed her husband committed suicide Tuesday faced charges in his death, police said.

Michele Williams, 42, was arrested Monday near her Keller home for the October shooting of Gregory Williams, 40. She also faces charges of making a false report to a peace officer and tampering with or otherwise fabricating physical evidence.

Williams called 911 at 4:40 a.m. Oct. 13, telling police a man dressed in black entered the home through the back door, hit her on the head and shot her husband.

Police told the Fort Worth (Texas) Star-Telegram that they soon found evidence to contradict her story. K-9 unit dogs did not detect the scent of an intruder, and a neighbor's security video system showed no unusual activity in the neighborhood that morning.

Police said Williams changed her story four hours later, saying she staged the scene so her 4-year-old daughter would not know her husband killed himself.

The two-month investigation was not consistent with this story either. Investigators determined someone standing 16 to 18 inches away shot Gregory Williams.

Michele Williams remained in jail on Tuesday with bail set at $522,000. Police have not disclosed what they believe to be Williams' motive. She has no prior criminal record.
