GARDEN GROVE, Calif., Jan. 9 (UPI) -- A plea hearing was postponed Monday for a Southern California woman who allegedly told police she cut off her estranged husband's penis because "deserved it."
Instead, a Feb. 2 arraignment was set for Catherine Kieu, 48, of Garden Grove, indicted Thursday by a grand jury on felony counts of aggravated mayhem and torture, KTLA-TV, Los Angeles, reported.
Kieu and her 60-year-old husband, whose name has not been released, married Dec. 29, 2009, and he filed for divorce May 16, 2011, although they continued to live in the same condominium.
Kieu is accused of slipping drugs in his supper July 11. After the victim went to the bedroom to lie down, Kieu tied his extremities to the bed with nylon ropes and cut off his penis with a 10-inch kitchen knife, prosecutors allege.
She then allegedly tossed the victim's genitalia into the garbage disposal and turned it on, the Orange County District Attorney's Office said.
Garden Grove police Lt. Jeff Nightengale said a woman, later identified as Kieu, called in a medical emergency to 911, KNBC-TV, Los Angeles, reported.
"The suspect called 911 and told responding officers that he 'deserved it,'" Nightengale said.
Doctors at University of California, Irvine, were unable to reattach the victim's penis.
