Santorum unfazed by vote count questions

DES MOINES, Iowa, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- Questions about vote count at the Iowa caucuses could swing the outcome in favor of Rick Santorum political observers said Friday.

The Iowa Republican Party announced Wednesday Mitt Romney had won over Santorum by just eight out of more than 120,000 votes.

However, Edward True of Moulton, Iowa, has filed an affidavit saying Romney only received 2, not 22 votes, in the Appanoose County caucus. True said he is one of three people who helped count the ballots, the Daily Iowaegian reported.

State party chairman Matt Strawn said it could take two weeks to certify the count and "will not respond to every rumor, innuendo or allegation" that surfaces, the Los Angeles Times said.

"That said, Iowa GOP officials have been in contact with Appanoose County Republican officials tonight and do not have any reason to believe the final, certified results of Appanoose County will change the outcome of Tuesday's vote," Strawn said.

Santorum said he was not concerned with any possible number changes.

"There will be, without question given the lateness of the hour and the hecticness that comes with turning in these numbers there will be changes," Santorum told Fox News. "That doesn't really matter to me. This was a tie."
