DECATUR, Ga., Dec. 29 (UPI) -- Police say they're investigating a syringe found in a pair of jogging pants a mother bought for her 4-year-old daughter at a suburban Atlanta store.
But the syringe, found Tuesday by a woman who purchased the pants from The Athlete's Foot in Decatur, does not appear to be linked to 14 syringes found in recent weeks in items purchased from a Walmart in Cartersville, about 50 miles away, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Thursday.
Ashley King of Stone Mountain told police she had bought the jogging pants at the Wesley Chapel Road store Christmas Eve as a gift for her daughter.
King said the syringe, which she found in a pocket, had a red cap on it and neither she nor her daughter was injured.
"I'm just glad I found it before she did," King said.
"This case appears to be an isolated incident," DeKalb police Lt. A.B. Catlin said in a statement. "However we are aware of the other cases outside of our jurisdiction and take this case very seriously. "
Damien Hughes, the store's manager, said he would review surveillance footage with police.
