On Wednesday, Wolfe visited the St. Louis campus. He said he plans to use the next two months as a "journey of enlightenment" to look at the university's four campuses.

Wolfe's father taught communications at the university for 30 years. Wolfe went on to Harvard Business School after graduating from the university's college of business and began his career in 1980 as a sales representative in Jefferson City, Mo., for IBM.

Wolfe was most recently division president for Novell Americas.
